Modern Slavery

It is the Policy of Convert Services Ltd to set out our responsibilities, and of those working for us, in observing and upholding our position on The Modern Slavery Act.

The Modern Slavery Act 2015

This Law is based on the international standards:

  • The UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights
  • The Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • Various International Labour Organization (ILO) conventions.

The areas of employment human rights include:

  • Child labour
  • Forced labour
  • Workplace safety and health
  • Freedom of association
  • Discrimination
  • Discipline and bullying
  • Working hours
  • Wages

Although Convert Services Limited’s turnover does not exceed the threshold turnover in the Modern Slavery Act 2015 requiring a statement concerning the steps the organisation has taken during the financial year to ensure that slavery and human trafficking is not taking place, we do acknowledge and recognise our obligations in this regard as a reputable provider of security services.

We can further confirm that we comply with the principles of the Social Responsibility International Standard, ISO 26000 and SA8000, the Social Accountability Standard published by Social Accountability International (SAI).

To achieve this objective:

It is our policy to conduct all of our business in an honest and ethical manner. We take a zero-tolerance approach to The Modern Slavery Act and are committed to acting professionally, fairly and with integrity in all our relationships and business dealings wherever we operate and to implementing and enforcing effective systems.

We will uphold all laws relevant to countering The Modern Slavery Act. We remain bound by the laws of the UK, including The Modern Slavery Act 2015,

The Convert Services Ltd has agreed a number of standards that suppliers need to comply with in order to be an approved supplier of the Convert Services Ltd. We wish to assure our customers that we work with responsible partners who adhere to the same standards as we do.

We are against the use of child labour throughout our entire supply chain, and do not accept any discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Convert Services Ltd carries out due diligence processes in relation to ensuring modern slavery and/or human trafficking does not take place in its organisation or supply chains, including conducting a review of the controls of its suppliers.

Convert Services Ltd has not, to its knowledge, conducted any business with another organisation which has been found to have involved itself with modern slavery.

In accordance with section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015, Convert Services Ltd has taken the following steps to ensure modern slavery is not taking place:

Our core suppliers are located in the UK, this means that these suppliers must abide to the strict zero-tolerance policy for slavery and human trafficking.

We maintain good working environments for our employees. We pay fair wages and comply with all minimum pay legislations in the various countries in which we employ personnel.

We fully recognise the United Nations Global Compact principles where Principle 4 covers the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour and Principle 5 covers the abolition of child labour.

All suppliers are required to abide by the same standards as we do. Convert Services Ltd terms and conditions which includes compliance with our Modern Slavery policy requirements:

All employee rights are respected and where services or goods are procured from overseas all requirements of the International Labor Organization concerning workers’ rights, especially in the area of working hours and conditions, compensation and exercising freedom of association. In particular, suppliers undertake not to resort in any way, shape or form, either directly or through their own subcontractors or suppliers to forced or mandatory labor or to child labor. Finally, they must ensure that their working practices are free of any form of discrimination.

Supply chain policy

It is our policy that Convert Services and our supply chain adhere to the following:

  • Child Labour: No use or support of child labour;
  • Forced and Compulsory Labour: No use or support for forced or compulsory labour; no required ‘deposits’ – financial or otherwise; no withholding salary, benefits, property or documents to force personnel to continue work; personnel right to leave premises after workday; personnel free to terminate their employment; and no use nor support for human trafficking.
  • Health and Safety: Provide a safe and healthy workplace; prevent potential occupational accidents; appoint senior manager to ensure Occupational Safety and Health (OSH); instruction on OSH for all personnel; system to detect, avoid, respond to risks; record all accidents; provide personal protection equipment and medical attention in event of work-related injury; remove, reduce risks to new and expectant mothers; hygiene- toilet, portable water, sanitary food storage; decent dormitories- clean, safe, meet basic needs; and worker right to remove from imminent danger.
  • Freedom of Association and Right to Collective Bargaining: Respect the right to form and join trade unions and bargain collectively. All personnel are free to: organize trade unions of their choice; and bargain collectively.
  • Discrimination: No discrimination based on race, national or social origin, caste, birth, religion, disability, gender, sexual orientation, union membership, political opinions and age. No discrimination in hiring, remuneration, access to training, promotion, termination, and retirement.
  • Disciplinary Practices: Treat all personnel with dignity and respect; zero tolerance of corporal punishment, mental or physical abuse of personnel; no harsh or inhumane treatment.
  • Working Hours: Compliance with laws & industry standards; normal work week, not including overtime, shall not exceed 48 hours; 1 day off following every 6 consecutive work days, with some exceptions; overtime is voluntary, not regular, not more than 12 hours per week.
  • Remuneration: Respect right of personnel to living wage; all workers paid at least legal minimum wage; wages sufficient to meet basic needs & provide discretionary income; deductions not for disciplinary purposes, with some exceptions; wages and benefits clearly communicated to workers; paid in convenient manner – cash or check form; overtime paid at premium rate; prohibited use of labour-only contracting, short-term contracts, false apprenticeship schemes to avoid legal obligations to personnel.

We shall review this policy regularly to ensure its continued suitability and in-line with our commitment to continual improvement.
